British Columbia offers some of the strongest utility-level solar incentives in Canada. Here's an accurate breakdown of what's available right now.
BC Hydro's residential solar rebate pays $1,000 per kW of installed solar capacity, capped at $5,000. A 5 kW system qualifies for the full rebate as long as the total project cost exceeds $10,000. The rebate is also capped at 50% of total installed costs including labour and materials.
Pair solar panels with a qualifying battery system and claim an additional $500 per kWh of installed storage capacity, up to $5,000. Combined with the solar rebate, BC Hydro customers can receive up to $10,000 total — offsetting 25–35% of a typical system's cost.
Solar panels, inverters, wiring, and controllers purchased in BC are exempt from Provincial Sales Tax (PST) — saving homeowners $1,000–$3,000 on a typical residential system.
Export excess solar power to the BC Hydro grid and earn credits at 10¢/kWh under the new Self-Generation Service Rate (effective July 1, 2026). Credits are applied directly to future bills.
